課程概述

English Oral Training II continues to train students to think and speak about a wide range of topics (Unit 6, 8, 9, and 10). Each student will prepare and give one discussion-based speech of their own interest based on one Unit topic. Also, they will collaborate on a variety of speaking tasks in a pair or small groups. As an integral part of the course, students will attend and engage in weekly class activities guided by the instructor.

By the end of the course, students will be able to (1) present about a topic in a semi-structured format; (2) share their opinions about a certain topic; (3) sharpen critical thinking through speaking tasks, and (4) carry out individual and collaborative speaking activities.

Class participation 
30% 
Students need to come to each class session and engage actively in various speaking-related activities. Good learning attitudes include arriving class on time and engage actively in communicative activities. 
2. 
Topic presentation 
10% 
Each student will prepare and give one individual speech about one relevant topic we are studying in the course. Sign up on a date under a Chapter of your own interest. 
3. 
News report 
10% 
Students in a pair will select and collect news of an issue of interest. Students will practice summarizing the information and expressing their opinions about the issue. 
4. 
Role play 
10% 
In a group of three, students will design and act out one show based on the course topics. Students are expected to collaborate and practice well before they demonstrate to the class.  
5. 
Midterm and Final assessment 
20% 
To evaluate students’ speech outcomes, a semi-structured speaking assessment will be conducted during Midterm (Week 8) and final’s (Weel16) weeks. Details to be distributed. 
6. 
Self-evaluations 
20% 
Students will record and reflect on their oral performance using an instructor-designed evaluation form.
